Favorite Summer Wellness Retreats

In recent years, the trend of wellness travel has really taken off with multiple hotels and resorts around the globe creating special programs promoting health and wellbeing. There are plenty of different options that tap into all kinds of wellness ranging from physical activity and exercise to nutritious culinary experiences and even mental health in the form of meditation and mindfulness. It’s also a plus that these rejuvenating packages tend to take place in some of the world’s most exquisite destinations.

With summer quickly approaching, we’re preaching “treat yourself” and encouraging our family, friends, and fans to partake in one of these wellness retreats that best fits their style. It’s one of those “two birds, one stone” scenarios that combines a vacation to an exotic locale with the benefit of investing in yourself and learning new techniques to live your best life – what could be better than that?

We’ve checked with the experts, queried our health guru friends, and scoured the Internet to find some of the most innovative programs to keep in mind for any upcoming travel plans. So without, further adieu, here are our favorite summer wellness retreats.

BodyHoliday – Cariblue Beach, St. Lucia

BodyHoliday Resort

No matter what category of wellness you’re looking for, the BodyHoliday resort is a great option for first-timers since it was founded on the key pillars of relaxation, restoration, exercise, and healthy eating. Guests of the resort can look forward to laid-back options like daily spa treatments as well as more exciting activities such as tai chi, archery and Spoga (a spinning and yoga hybrid course to get the blood pumping). Being nestled on St. Lucia’s idyllic Cariblue Beach is a nice perk – but did we mention the week-long programs are also all-inclusive? Sign us up!

Mii Amo – Sedona, Arizona

Mii Amo Resort

If you’re the type of person who prefers diverse offerings and multiple options, then look no further than Mii Amo in Arizona’s serene Boynton Canyon. There are more than 100 activities to suit even the pickiest vacationers, including rock climbing, Juicing 101, chanting lessons, stargazing and many, many more. Foodies will also be happy to learn that the resort specializes in health-conscious culinary offerings, from full-on feasts to grab-and-go snacks, fresh-pressed juices, homemade energy drinks, and smoothies that will blow you away. But don’t worry – there’s also an amazing wine selection and crafted cocktails if you want to opt for a more adult libation.

Mountain Trek Fitness Retreat & Health Spa – Ainsworth Hot Springs, British Columbia

Moutain Trek Fitness Retreat

There’s something about that fresh mountain air that’s hard to beat. At Mountain Trek Fitness Retreat Resort & Health Spa, guests can look forward to everything from sunrise yoga and meditation to day-long hikes led by local guides. Everyone who works at the rustic resort is dedicated to helping guests achieve optimal health, and it won’t take long before you find yourself getting onboard, too! For anyone imagining a week of only being able to munch on kale and snack on trail mix, you’ll be pleased to know their on-site nutritionists are great at what they do (like, really great) and have developed healthy yet delicious meals – we recommend the lemon ricotta pancakes!

Aro Hā Wellness Retreat – Glenorchy, New Zealand

Aro Ha Wellness Resort

You’ll be tough-pressed to find a more serene destination than Lake Wakatipu in New Zealand’s Southern Alps. With just 20 eco-friendly suites, visitors can look forward to a restorative but intimate getaway. But it’s not just the scenery and close-knit vibe that we’re in love with. At Aro Hā Wellness Retreat, you get a perfectly balanced mixture of wellness and mindfulness – so you can be confident that you’ll return home after any stay feeling like a whole new you.

Bushmans Kloof – Clanwilliam, South Africa

Bushmans Kloof

If wide open spaces are more your thing, allow us to introduce Bushmans Kloof in Clanwilliam, South Africa. The resort sits at the foot of the Cederberg Mountains on 18,500 acres of sprawling plains. Nature lovers are sure to find solace here, since the resort also happens to be home to more than 150 species of birds, 750 varieties of plants, and 35 different kinds of mammals. Be sure to check out their award-winning spa while you’re there as well (preferably in one of the gorgeous riverside gazebos)!

Cal-a-Vie – Vista, California

cal-a-Vie Resort

No matter what is causing you stress, we promise than Cal-a-Vie is the antidote! Some people like to do their own thing while on vacation, while others prefer to be waited on by a team of attentive professionals. For those who lean town the latter, this resort boasts a staff-to-guest ratio is five to one, meaning you can rest easy knowing you are in good hands. Guests can look forward to blood-pumping exercise classes like cardio kickboxing, Zumba, water volleyball, and piloxing (this hybrid course is a blend of pilates, boxing, and dancing). With 32 French-inspired villas, you’ll feel like you’ve escaped to Europe rather than California’s countryside – perfect for those who don’t have the time (or budget) for a flight across the pond!
