It’s hard to believe that we’re already more than a month into spring, meaning summer is just around the corner (although it may still feel like winter, depending wherever you are in the world)!
Our favorite way to transition through the changing seasons is by incorporating current trends into our every day lives. One of the easiest ways to accomplish this is by making small adjustments in your home space. You would be surprised how little changes have major effects!
Lucky for all of us, there are plenty of exciting home décor trends that experts are already predicting for spring 2017 and beyond. At the same time, that means there are also quite a few 2016 trends that are on their way out.
Take a look at what’s in and what’s out for home styling trends this year, and let us know which ones are your favorites!
Trend One: Printed Perfection
What’s In: Lively Tropical Prints
What’s Out: Lazy Chevron Prints
Honolulu Palm Wallpaper by Graham Brown
While Chevron was everywhere last year (from floors to ceilings – literally), 2017 is the year of the tropical escapism. Rich pops of color, whimsical patterns, and nature-inspired motifs will be everywhere this year. For an easy incorporation, consider adding some split-leaf philodendron patterned pillows to your bedroom or living space. It you can’t get enough of this trend, consider making a bold statement with tropical print wallpaper.
Trend Two: Going Green
What’s In: Green Everywhere
What’s Out: Stark White Everything
Pantone Color of the Year, Greenery
Speaking of 2017’s tropical home décor craze, it’s no surprise that everyone is seeing green this spring, calling it the breakout color trend of the year. The hue was off to a strong start when Pantone dubbed “greenery” the color of 2017. Although “greenery” is described as a “fresh and zesty yellow-green shade,” everything from bursts of lime to deep emeralds will be making a splash this season (which, in our opinion, is a whole lot more fun than the stark white trend of last year).
Trend Three: Woven Warmth
What’s In: Warm, Woven Textures
What’s Out: Cold, Shiny Metallics
2016 saw the trend of shiny metallics like brass and rose gold rise to the top, dominating industries ranging from home décor to technology – but all of that is about to change. Spring 2017 is about creating warmth and texture in the home by utilizing woven goods. This is one trend we love because it’s so easy to bring to life. We recommend starting with something like our Whitewash Oval Rattan Placemats or one of our Natural Seagrass Baskets. To learn more about the woven goods trend, check out our previous blog post.
Trend Four: Quality over Quantity
What’s In: Handmade Investment Pieces
What’s Out: Generic Mass Produced Goods
It’s easy to shop online or visit one of the big home décor stores (not naming any names) to find an affordable light fixture, piece of furniture or decorative accent. But “affordable” oftentimes translates to “cheap” unfortunately. Spring 2017 is all about purchasing handmade, sustainable and unique investment pieces to spruce up your home. Luckily, that happens to be our specialty! Take a look at our Limited Edition HANSA Handwoven Decorative Throw, which is a one-of-a-kind piece created by a family in Thailand exclusively for DUFMOD.
